Yes & No, The skirt is primary, and should remain in this pattern, long or short, it is flexible, but the design is as shown. The blouse can be White, Black, Check mixed, the neckline shown is for ease of dressing the doll, we will address neckline design at the meeting. Mens shirts can be black, white, with or without the checked yolk and cuffs, but the black slacks are preferred as shown.
The Black & White lends itself to add a splash of color with petticoat and slip colors showing thru the lace, and adding color below the skirt. Mens ties can be Black, White or Check to contrast with the shirt chosen, they can also match the partners petticoat color if desired. Women can also add a belt to match their petticoat color.... The basic black and white lends itself to many variations.
Checkmates has become the largest Square Dance Club in Mesa and in our Association, when we attend a special dance, festival or raid, we want to stand out as a group. As we continue to grow, we need specifics in several directions, primary is to be recognized on sight.
Wednesday, January 26, 2022 will be a Club Meeting prior to the dance to discuss the outfit, solidify the neckline flexibility or blouse design and lay the ground rules for the build. For those of you that do not sew, we will also have some options for you. WE WILL VOTE AT THIS MEETING, YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO BE COUNTED. I have a bolt of 1/4" Black/White Check and a bolt of the Black, both are 45" Poly Cotton Blend and the yardage you need is priced at $2.90 a yard. The White Lace will be store price and presented at the meeting.
The cloth selection was done in late 2019 by Don & Diane van Straaten, Dave & Elli Christmas and Lianne Brooks. Two bolts of cloth were purchased by Don van Straaten, then the Fauci Flu hit us. Our premier seamstress is Diana Collins, who joined the discussion and pattern selection in November with Don & Diane, she suggested the lace panels between the gores of checks & black. Diana then volunteered to sew the outfits for dolls that she owned, and use them for display. They were a big hit on Nov 17th and will be displayed at our upcoming dances.
A huge Checkmates Club Thank You to Diana Collins for her sewing expertise!!!
